Course aim

To develop competency in clinical reasoning and intervention for people experiencing neurological conditions to enable their occupational performance.

Course content

Occupational impact associated with a range of neurological conditions including acquired brain injury, cerebral-vascular accident. Practice based evidence for neurological interventions. Negotiating targeted outcomes and developing action plans to address challenges to occupational performance, using different theoretical frameworks. Strategies and techniques to enable occupational performance relevant to different theoretical approaches and different stages of the client pathway. Approaches to teamwork commonly employed when working with people with neurological conditions, including the role and relationships of clients and carers in teamwork. Legislative, privacy, ethical and medico-legal aspects of practice including report writing. Principles and strategies for communicating with people experiencing communication difficulties.
