Digital Information Management

Course aim

To develop knowledge in digital information and records management principles, processes, and procedures; understand the management of digital information in electronic document management systems and other business systems, including the relevant standards that guide their management; and research emerging issues concerning digital information management in government and industry.

Course content

The learning process will consist of understanding digital information management principles and concepts, and their application in practice; the value of information as a business, evidentiary and community resource; digital information and records management software solutions and their use; governance of digital information; understanding and applying metadata standards for digital information; ownership, risks and administrative issues associated with digital information and records management; authenticity, reliability, usability and accessibility of digital information for e-discovery and Freedom of Information requests; information management processes, practice and systems; roles and responsibilities of the information manager; understanding emerging issues such as technical obsolescence, the cloud, social medial digital signatures and ISO 16175 in relation to business systems.
