The aim of this course is to develop student skills in the theory and practical application of podiatry assessment and treatment techniques.
Clinical reasoning: clinical reasoning theory, development of clinical expertise; ethics in clinical practice, roles and responsibilities of the podiatry student and podiatrist; clinical procedures and protocols, patient information recording, clinic set-up, instrument handling and cleaning, use of sterilisers; examination technique: vascular, neurological; clinical techniques: nail treatment, scalpel techniques, equipment handling, safety; mechanical techniques: use of padding and strapping; dressing techniques; topical medicaments: choice, safe handling and application, patient instructions, recording.
