Course aim

To provide students with an introduction to the nature of scientific research, particularly laboratory-based research; information retrieval techniques; the student-supervisor relationship; record keeping; time management; bibliography management; OH&S in laboratories; research ethics; presentation skills; report-writing; reading topic.

Course content

This course is intended to provide an introduction to research project, research the scientific literature to understand and be able to describe to others the background and current state of knowledge in the area of research project, and establish a research plan, and commence research work on the project.

It is assumed that you will demonstrate a sound knowledge from having completed an undergraduate program in the subject area of the research project. The Research Project Preparation course (NASC 4003) should be taken in conjunction with this course.
