To provide students with an introduction to the research environment; the nature of scientific research, particularly laboratory-based research; information retrieval techniques; the student-supervisor relationship; record keeping; time management; bibliography management; OH&S in laboratories; research ethics; presentation skills; report-writing; reading topic.
This course is intended to provide an introduction to the research environment in general and the Ian Wark Research Institute in particular. Lectures and discussions will be offered on the nature of scientific research, particularly laboratory-based research; information retrieval techniques; the student-supervisor relationship; record keeping; bibliography management; OH&S in laboratories; research ethics; and presentation skills.
