Course aim

To enable students to examine travel, tourism and hospitality as sociocultural phenomena in historical and contemporary contexts.

Course content

Tourism as a field of study; definition of tourism; continuities in the history of travel, tourism and hospitality; technological impacts from the Industrial Revolution to virtual reality; mass consumption societies and demand for tourism; destination attractions; structure and relationship of hospitality industry; tourism for economic development; tourism impact analysis ; trends in the development of travel and tourism.
