Course aim

To develop students’ spoken and written communication skills in English as an Additional Language (foreign and second language) at an introductory level for use as an academic language for undergraduate university study.

Course content

This course is designed to develop students’ proficiency in English as an additional (second or foreign) language at an introductory level necessary for university study and employment in Australia and other English-speaking countries. The distinctive features of Australian English are examined in short literary and visual texts. Students will learn how to use their existing knowledge of language(s) to advance their proficiency in English. The course includes a strong focus on the reading and writing of reflective, biographic and descriptive texts, in parallel with enhanced listening and speaking skills’ development in English.
