Course aim

To enable students to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to field practice and to enable students to reflect on their clinical experience.

Course content

Orientation to field practice including: expectations, professional behaviour, goal setting, effective use of supervision, self directed learning in practice settings. Orientation to field practice assessment: including performance evaluation tools, purpose of workbook and portfolio of evidence. Reflective practice. Observation and participation in occupational therapy programs and service delivery, under supervision, that may include observation, interview, occupational analysis, development of a graded occupational program, manual handling, universal precautions, environmental modifications, positioning, advocacy, educational approaches, and modalities. Application of Occupational Therapy Process Model including naming, validating and prioritising occupational performance issues, selecting theoretical approaches, identifying occupational performance components and environmental conditions, identifying strengths and resources, negotiating targeted outcomes and developing action plans and implementing plans through occupation. Report writing and documentation.
