Sustainable Destination Management

Course aim

To provide the opportunity for students to critically evaluate their understanding of tourism impacts and destination management issues. To enable students to analyse various strategic approaches to sustainable destination development in both local and international contexts.

Course content

Sustainable tourism business; destination management; destination marketing; the multiplier effect and leakage; employment issues; international business and foreign investment; sustainable business initiatives; fair-trade tourism business; ethical responsibility and international understanding; green leadership in environmental practices; cultural commodification; cultural development; creative economy; social entrepreneurship; community involvement; Asia-Pacific emerging economy; tourism planning; impact assessment and monitoring.
