Course aim
The course introduces the students to analog and basic digital communication systems, including the mathematical principles of signal transmission and practical aspects of simulation and implementation.
Course content
Overview of analog and digital wireless transmission.
Mathematical description of analog modulation schemes. Fourier transform for analysis and design. Block diagrams to represent modulators and demodulators. Basic link budget.
Mathematical description of basic digital modulation and demodulation. Discrete-time system model. Performance analysis.
Practical building blocks for transmitters and receivers, and non-ideal effects on information transmission.
Simulation of analog and digital modulation schemes with MATLAB. Analog modulation with laboratory equipment.
