Course aim

To introduce students to principles applicable to the design detailing and construction of fixed furniture, joinery and interior elements.

Course content

Students will develop knowledge in detailing theory and practice and the relationship between part and whole; the relationship of structural principles and human factors in the design of fixed furniture and joinery; material selection and suitability; connections and jointing systems; hardware and the assembly of natural and composite materials; interior detailing related to commercial interior design projects. Students will develop skills in the preparation of technical drawings, schedules and specifications, integration of building and communication services.
