Course aim

To provide students with a fundamental concept of planning manufacturing systems, and skills in the selection and design of manufacturing systems.

Course content

Introduction to basic manufacturing systems, organisation of manufacturing systems, facility layout, manufacturing information systems. Production concepts and manufacturing performance indicators. Manufacturing costs and work-in-progress costs. High volume production systems, analysis of flow lines, assembly systems and line balancing. Manufacturing system design, group technology, flexible manufacturing and cellular manufacturing systems. Concepts of computer integrated manufacturing and enterprise integration.
