To build students interpersonal communication skills to enable them to interact appropriately and effectively in a wide range of health care settings and to develop student understanding of the requirements for effective communication in the health setting
Communication issues in podiatry care; barriers to communication. Ethical considerations in health care provision; privacy; confidentiality; reporting responsibilities, advocacy; conflicts of interest or opinion. Written communication skills – letters, reports and case notes in the podiatry context.
Adapting communication skills to the podiatry setting; grief and loss, chronic pain, illness behaviour, anger. Commonly encountered clinical communication issues in podiatry. Communication within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Communication issues related to
medical disorders; pharmacological influences, diseases of ageing, mental
illness, brain injury.
