Course aim

To develop students’ understanding of key themes, issues, and theories concerning gender, sexuality, and representation in visual culture and art.

Course content

This course introduces students to a variety of theories concerning the cultural production of gender, including feminism, queer theory, masculinity studies, and trans-studies. Students will develop the ability to critically evaluate representations of gender and sexuality across a variety of art forms and media (including the visual arts, photography, film, television, advertising, performance, popular music, fashion, and digital culture).
