Course aim

To enable students to apply the principles of fluid mechanics and heat transfer in the analysis, testing and selection of engineering systems.

Course content

Similitude, dimensional analysis and model study; Boundary layer and surface resistance; Multidimensional and transient heat conduction; natural and forced convection; radiation; boiling and condensation.
Types, characteristics and selection of pumps, fans, compressors and turbines; Analysis of pump/pipe flow systems; Introduction to compressible flow.
