Course aim

To introduce students to a sociologically critical understanding of society.

Course content

This course introduces the discipline of sociology by examining the historical formation of modern society and contemporary directions of social change. It provides students with valuable skills and knowledge to comprehend the fast-changing world in which we live. In particular it focuses on two types of social transformation: globalisation and post-industrialisation. Students will also become familiar with the nature of sociology, social divisions and the significance of popular culture.
